Walking With My Sovereign

Walking With My Sovereign 8/1/12

I awake to the morn
The sky bright and blue
Ready for a day with me and You.

I laugh in the sun
We follow Your way
Then I notice the sky has grown gray.

You hold me close
The rain blinds my eyes
But You promise me this is no surprise.

We make it through
It was not me
There was no way I'd stand if it wasn't for Thee.

I try to wander my way
Still You patiently guide
Holding my fears- all the tears I have cried.

The day goes on
With bumps and with hills
Yet the path we are walking is safe in Your will.

The sun's going down
The sky turns to black
But I will never, no never, turn back.

The dark frightens me
I lose sight of You
Your arms wrap tighter- You're still here too.

We continue to walk
But I can not see
But You didn't change- You're still watching me.

The sun will arise,
I'll watch the dawn,
Still on the foundation that I'm resting on.

So here I will stand,
Arms raised up high,
Alive in the beauty of You and I.

Some backstory and thoughts. . .

This verse, which is now towards the end of the poem, was the line that originally started this. I began singing it to the opening music of Love Never Fails .

The sun's going down
The sky turns to black
But I will never, no never, turn back.

It was a overflow of joy, being reminded that at the end of a long day, as the sun was setting, that I was certain of who was with me. He wasn't surprised at how the day had gone, or confused about what was coming. And though I was both confused and surprised, it wasn't a big deal because He was over all of it.

I love the quote that essentially says what was seen in the light has not changed because it is now dark. My sky will darken with different degrees of trials through parts of life, but He will still be the same as He's always been.

God walks with His children through every part of life- through the good and times of joy, as well as the times we can't see, the times we lose sight of Him, and the times we struggle against His guidance - everything. He's there, walking beside us and won't let us go.
Thinking about that wonderful fact makes me feel alive with joy!
